Last week we had a few fun events. Our first ultrasound to see one perfect little heartbeat :-) We picked up our co-op order. So excited to finally have eggs in the house again. And yesterday we visited Voogt Farm (Justin's uncle). We got a nice tour and learned a lot about how they raise their cattle.
This week isn't too busy for once. Although I kind of wish it was so it would go by faster :P Today is church. Monday is grocery day. Tuesday is farmer's market, and Justin has class. Wednesday is Kindermusik, and Justin has a meeting at church. Thursday I might go to Target. Friday is our first MOPS meeting of the year. I really hope I'm feeling good enough for that. Saturday we will be picking up our chickens. Which means I'll have to deal with them...right at 8 weeks of pregnancy. This could be interesting. A challenge for sure.
I didn't get quite as much done in the kitchen last week as I had hoped. But I did can one batch of applesauce, made sourdough english muffins, ground flour, baked and froze squash, froze strawberries and peppers and made sourdough chocolate cake (recipe to come).
This week will be similar to last week. I have quite a bit I want to get done. But we'll just have to see how things go. I need to keep working on applesauce. I want to dry apples, render some lard, make pesto and cut up/freeze our chickens. I'd also like to experiment with popcorn making. Since salty food is about all I can stomach these days I need some healthy snacks. I want to try making popcorn in a pan instead of using my air popper. And try some variations. I might also make some bread.
Meals are what sounds good to me and trying my best to get in pregnancy nutrients. It's getting tougher and tougher to have the two align, but I'm trying. And some days I have options. We'll just see how I'm doing then. Here's what's on the menu for now.

ReplyDeleteGood luck with the chickens. I did mine last weekend. I didn't have time to do ground chicken, though. I think i'll be getting some more in a few weeks to grind.
I'm very curious to hear about your rendering. I got some from our dairy farm last week. Just a pint b/c I can't wait for ours in Nov. from our hog. :) The lard at the farm is from Grassfields... they raise the hogs for our herd share owners.
I need to figure out when i'll make applesauce now, too. I picked up two half bushels yesterday- ginger golds and jonagolds.
