I mentioned in my September goals that I was going to try a new makeup. I have, and I thought I'd give a little review.
I'll start by saying I was using Physician's Formula Organics. It was the only "natural" makeup I could find at the store that didn't cost too much. But a few weeks back when I went to buy more I noticed a label on the front boasting about soy in it. Really? I don't want to be putting soy on my face and having my skin absorb it. So I didn't buy any more and started doing some research.
I found a blog post about makeup from a lady on the Naturally Knocked Up eCourse forums. So I looked into it. It's called Everyday Minerals. Most (or maybe all) of their products have only 2-5 ingredients. No parabens, SLS, etc. And most prodcuts (or maybe all...I have only checked some) are rated 1-3 by the EWG.
One of the best parts about this makeup...it's not that expensive! The other great thing is they have sample kits that come with 3 or 4 products of the same type to try out. And each set is only $5. Plus you can always get one sample free with any purchase. So to start I ordered 3 sample kits (a base, a concealer and a blush) and only paid $10, plus about $3 for S&H. Not bad at all. And I got a lot of makeup to try. 11 small samples.
You really do get quite a bit in the samples. I've only tried one shade of each product so far (been using it for a week) and there is still plenty left in each. So this will last a while/will take a while to try them all.
And the real question...does it work? YES! I love it. I've tried many different makeups over the years. And have never really found anything that works well for me. I have acne. I have oily skin. I have crazy hormones that do all sorts of stuff to my skin. So I usually end up feeling like I have a mask on to cover the acne. And my face looks oily/shiny 20 min. after putting makeup on. I feel like I'm blotting and putting powder on all day. And by the end of the day I feel like I have a caked on mess. Not with this. I put it on in the morning. And I don't have to touch it the rest of the day. It doesn't rub off on anything. My face doesn't look oily all day. No blotting or powder. I put my makeup on at 6 am. At 9 pm I still feel like I look good. And I hardly feel or look like I'm wearing makeup. It's pretty amazing!
I am excited to try more of my samples and figure out which products/colors work best for me. And order some full size products. Finally, a makeup that works. Is natural. And isn't too expensive. I didn't think it existed :-P
One other bonus...I feel comfortable wearing it while I'm pregnant :) Always good.
I am going to order some of their eye shadows. I need to check out their site to see what they have for samplers for shadows. Thanks, Mary!
ReplyDeleteLet me know how you like it. Maybe I'll order some eye makeup when I order some full size stuff...after I figure out which colors I want.
ReplyDeleteI just put in an order. It must be a free $5 on every order, or something, too. I got $5 off for some reason. I wish they had samplers of the eye colors, but I couldn't find any.
ReplyDeleteI was having a hard time deciding on colors, so I just got enough for three different looks. I ordered these eye colors... Jane Eyre, Diary, Autumn Afternoon, Driftwood, and Boardwalk. I also ordered the Dark Brown Brow color. And Just Whistle lipstick. Not bad for only $33... I wouldn't even get two eye colors for that price with my other makeup. :) I wish they had eyeliner and mascara...
