Brrr. What a cold morning. This will be a fairly busy week. As always hoping I can keep up. Today is church. I am helping in Little Lambs for the first time. A little nervous about that, not knowing how I'll feel. But I'm guessing all of the toddlers will keep me distracted. Tomorrow is grocery shopping. Tuesday is farmer's market, Rebecca gets a flu shot, and Justin has class. Wednesday is Kindermusik, and Justin has church stuff in the evening. Thursday I have my phone consult with my OB nurse (the first "appointment"). Friday there is a big 2nd hand sale that I'm hoping to go to. Then Saturday we're planning to go to Grand Blanc for my nephew's first birthday party. It's depedant on how I feel, but hopefully we can make it.
Last week I canned one more batch of applesauce, made dried apples, made apple crisp, froze 1 1/2 gallons of cauliflower, and finally rendered some lard. We also got our fresh chickens yesterday. So I cut up 2 of them (post to come), vacuum sealed and froze them. I froze one whole. I'll cook one today and freeze extra meat. And I have chicken stock going in the crockpot right now. Not too excited about all of this at the moment since chicken is on the bottom of my list of foods that sound good. But I'm trying to get it done anyway.
This week I'm hoping to make chicken broth (in the crockpot right now...might do another batch early this week), applesauce, dried apples and either bread or sourdough english muffins. Depending on what I find at the farmer's market I might freeze more veggies. And if time allows I could try out my lard by making apple pie.
For meals this week, I've decided to not really plan all of my breakfasts ahead of time. Mornings are so uncertain for me right now. Some days I can eat well. Some days I have to start my morning with a sucker and can barely manage toast for breakfast. I just never know until I wake up. So I have a bunch of options listed. And will decide each day based on how I feel. I'll try to stick to my dinner plans. But again, it will just depend on how I feel.
As a little side note, I was looking through my old pregnancy folder (that I got from my OB when I was pg with Rebecca). And I looked at their "nutrition" info. It recommends 9-11 servings of grains a day!!! I could not believe it. If I ate that much I would be stuffed and constipated beyond belief. Nobody needs that many servings of grains a day. Seriously. And they say to use fat sparingly...and recommend margarine and vegetable oils. Gross! Glad I know better now what real nutrition is and how to nourish myself and my baby. As few grains as possible and bring on the real fat!! :)

I was going to ask you in my last email (but forgot) if you guys were doing flu shots this year with all the new knowledge. I'm still debating, but am strongly leaning towards not getting them for any of us. Especially since the flu shots are for so many strains this year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything this week. We'll see you on Saturday!
I debated about the flu shots. But decided to go ahead considering how often we all got sick last year. Still debating about myself, though. Leaning towards not getting one. Just makes me so nervous...the what ifs. Hoping my CLO and healthy eating will keep me much healthier this year. I already dodged the first cold that went through our house this year. Rebecca and Justin had it. I didn't have even a slight bit of one.
