After months and months of wanting to get back into sewing I finally did it. I learned how to sew when I was about 12. And was pretty good at it...for a 12 year old. But haven't done any sewing since then. I do love crafts, though. Especially things like sewing. And I grew up with an amazing seamstress for a mom :) So I knew I wanted to give it a go. My goal for this month started out as just figuring out how to thread my sewing machine/get it to work. I set aside one morning to sit down with the manual and figure it out. Once I had that working Rebecca and I took a trip to the fabric store to find a project. After browsing some pattern books I decided on a very simple project...at least that's what the pattern said :) I had no idea how long it would take or how difficult it would be. I gave myself until Christmas to get it done. But to my surprise I finished it in less than 1 week!! It was so much fun. I think I'm hooked :) I already have a couple more projects to work on. And I want to get started right away. I'm guessing they'll have to wait until after we get back from Thanksgiving travel, though. Anyway, I'm so glad I finally got around to sewing again. I still have a lot to learn and a lot of experimenting to do. But I'm excited to try making all sorts of stuff and challenging myself. And at some point I would like to be able to start selling a few things.
So, on to the project itself. I found a cute pattern for a bag...kind of like a little tote. You can make a small bag or large bag. I started with the small. It ended up being quite small. But it will be a perfect size for carrying a few or Rebecca's things when we're making a trip to the library or park or something. It turned out really well. And it actually was quite easy. I'm excited to try the large bag.
Very cute! Sewing is a lot of fun! I'm hooked, too! A tote is one of my next projects, though I'm not sure when I will start it. I'm working on making some ruffle scarves for some friends for Christmas. They're so easy and quick, I've finished 3 of them so far. I just wish I had more time to devote to it!
