Last week was fairly productive. We now finally have Rebecca "settled" in her room and have the nursery set up. So at least everyone has a place to sleep now :) Rebecca figured out this week that she can get out of bed the instant she wakes up (started when she had a bad dream one night and was scared to go to her room) :( We were hoping that wouldn't happen so soon. Hopefully she'll get back to sleeping better instead of getting up several times a morning soon. I finished Rebecca's princess bag, her last bib and 9 more cloth wipes. I got my hair cut (so needed that), and Justin and I went out for dinner. I'm finally done with all of my gift shopping until June. Glad to be done with that (now I just have to wrap everything). We are just about done buying baby stuff too. Our monitors came this week. The new swing motor is on the way. We have decided not to get a double stroller for now and see how it goes. Although it would be very nice I just don't know that it's worth $700 for a double jogger and infant seat attachment. I made it to Target and Heffron Farms yesterday. Stocked up on salmon, beef and 6 lbs. of butter :) And I've been reading my GAPS book whenever I get a chance. Wow! So much good stuff. And it makes so much sense. I'm anxious to get through it and get closer to eating a full GAPS diet. The biggest struggles for me will be sugar and dairy. I don't care about the grains, but don't take away my chocolate and cheese :P In the kitchen I froze a batch of chili, made mayo, fermented punch, cream cheese, oatmeal muffins, gf breakfast bars, carob cake, honey mustard dressing, ranch dressing and peanut butter cups (recipe to come).
As I've been trying to do a lot of planning ahead and figuring out what I need to do yet before May I've realized there is still a lot! So I'm going to try to squeeze a lot in this week. Plus the tile work starts in the basement this week. Busy as always. Today is church and Little Lambs. Mon. - Wed. will be tile work. So we'll have people here at various times. We may get our first trial of Rebecca napping in her bed this week :P Monday is also Harvest Health and gymnastics. Tuesday I'll be home all day since that's the main tile work day...just in case. Justin has class. Wednesday is Kindermusik and Meijer. And I have my 34 week check up. At this point I am planning to be home Thursday and Friday to bake, cook, clean, etc. And Saturday my family is giving me a girl's day out as a fun way to celebrate the arrival of baby #2. We're going to paint pottery, shop and go out for dinner.
While I'm home I have a lot to get done. This morning I already cooked beans, made lunch, soaked flour for muffins, cut into sticks/froze 6 lbs. of butter and cleaned my pump. Later today hopefully Rebecca can help me bake muffins and possibly a batch of cookies. I also want to get my new dehydrator all set to go so I can use it this week. Also on my list - bake at least one of Rebecca's birthday cakes, make dried apples and fruit leather, make crispy almonds and pecans, make almond butter, make gf scones and muffins, make and freeze homemade pizza and make/freeze enchilada bake. I will be making a few batches of that because I am bringing a meal to someone from church this week. So some of my extra cooking and baking is for them. I have quite a bit of buttermilk to use up, so I'm still brainstorming how to use that. If time allows I have 6 cloth wipes cut out that I have to stitch up yet. We'll see if I have a few spare minutes here and there.
As always I'm working on eating better/healing my gut. I'll be trying to eat soup/broth several times this week. Hopefully that will help. And for breakfast this morning I tried for the first time mixing an egg yolk into my cup of yogurt (I always put egg yolks in my smoothies, but have never just mixed one in with yogurt). It worked great! And it only takes a few extra seconds. So healthy. And you'd never know it's there except for the yellowish color of the yogurt :) Definitely something I'll do more often to get nutrients and healing food in my body.
Another crazy week. Hopefully I can still keep up. This big baby is wearing me out :P Sometimes I forget how much work it takes to grow a baby.

Sounds like you are making lots of progress in prepping for the baby. You will probably do ok without a double stroller. Since you said you really won't use it too often, have you thought about maybe just getting a cheap brand (like In-Step or Jeep or similar) that still gets decent reviews? I think the doubles for those usually run in the $200-300 range, don't they? It'd be different if you were thinking you'd use the double as your main stroller (I'd opt for the Bob), but you said you won't really use it that often... so you'd be good with the cheaper brands. Or buy a Bob from Craigslist. There's a navy duallie for $300 on there right now. The infant seat adapters are still around and able to be purchased for the pre-2011 models right now.
ReplyDeleteYou will have to tell me more about the GAPS diet. I hope you are able to heal from it.
Is the tile work the last step for the basement bath?
Looking forward to seeing you and Rebecca on Saturday!! I hope you aren't too tired out from all your to-dos this week! :)
We have done very well using baby carriers instead of a double stroller. We go for walks at least a few times every week. I carry the baby in a baby carrier (usually the Beco these days, but for newborns I preferred the Moby wrap), and my 4-year-old daughter goes in either the stroller, or walks/rides her little bike if we're only going to the park around the corner. But then again, neither of my kids were ever happy in a car seat or stroller when they were very young, so baby carriers have always been used alot regardless (even when going to the store). Those last few weeks of pregnancy are so exciting!
ReplyDeleteMy thought all along has been to use a carrier for the baby (either our BabyHawk or a Moby) and the stroller for Rebecca. The only reason for a double really is if I want to jog outside (in which case I couldn't carry the baby). I miss jogging outside, but the reality is that I'll likely stick to my treadmill and fit in exercise during naps, etc. So if we get a double I want a jogger. We're going to see how it goes without for now. If I think I really want a sit/stand kind of thing we'll just get the stand attachment for our Baby Jogger...much cheaper than buying a whole new stroller...and I LOVE my BJ.
ReplyDelete@Sarah - I do want a Moby (had it on my Christmas and birthday list this year :P). Just waiting a few more weeks...just in case anyone has bought one for me...although I doubt it. Else I'm going to just buy it myself. Thanks for the suggestions.
@Sara - I can tell you more about GAPS on Sat. One section I read already made me think of you. Or maybe I'll just type/email the bit I read.
This is actually pretty much the 1st step in the project :\ Tile the stall this week. Then another crew has to do the finishing work in the room...lights, fan, ceiling, floor boards, etc. Hopefully it will only be a couple weeks total, though.
