Rebecca usually uses a bib still when she eats...she can be messy :P But her current bibs are getting pretty nasty. We have 2 that we rotate between. And they are getting moldy. I actually threw one of them away last week. And the other is about to go. So it's been on my to-do list for a while to make some bibs. I saw a post on
One Little Word She Knew for making bibs a bit ago (can't find the actual post at the moment :P). Like Christy I'm not thrilled about having Rebecca wear some crazy plastic on her at meals. I just used one of her old bibs as a pattern and cut it out using leftover fabric from the diaper bag/nursing cover I made. This was soooo easy. I worked on it for a few minutes in the morning and a bit more while Rebecca napped in the afternoon. And made it in one day :) I used 2 pieces of fabric, sewed them together (right sides together, leaving an opening at the bottom), flipped them right side out, ironed it and stitched the opening shut. I didn't add a pocket, but that could easily be done. I sewed on a little velcro for the closure. This was a very quick project. I didn't take the time to make it super precise. But the functionality is great. And I like that I can just throw it in the wash when it's dirty. I need to make a few more now so we can rotate. Maybe next time I'll take pictures as I go so I can update with a tutorial. So glad I tried this. I didn't know it would be so easy. And so much safer/healthier.
Edited 3/17/11 - Made a 2nd bib this morning. Went even faster the 2nd time. Maybe 20-30 minutes total. And this one is even neater. Great way to use up scrap fabric :)
Bib #2
Bibs are so easy to make! It looks great! Much cuter than the bibs you buy at the store, too! :)
ReplyDeleteCool, glad that worked for you! We have a whole stash of these bibs and love them. :)
ReplyDeleteChristy, I'll be making more for sure. I love how quick they are. And they are so cute! My daughter loves them.
