Snow Ice Cream

I recently found this recipe for snow ice cream on Heavenly Homemakers.  It sounded interesting and fun, so we tried it out yesterday.  Kind of a crazy concept to make ice cream out of snow.  But it works.  It's not like the ice cream you buy.  It tastes more like homemade ice cream...a little bit icey, melts quickly.  But it tastes good!  Rebecca absolutely loved making it!  And eating it!  She loved that she got to mix her own ice cream (she likes to stir anything she can).  And she tried out her new spoon skills and fed herself and Mommy :)  She was very proud of herself.  The ice cream melted pretty quickly and became a bowl of sweet milk water :P  But it was still a lot of fun.  I made a little extra and stuck it in the freezer just to see what would happen.  Right now it's a block of ice.  We'll see what happens if it thaws a bit.  This is a great thing to do with kids after a big, fresh snowfall.  Unique and tastey.  And so so simple.

Snow Ice Cream

A big bowl of snow
Real maple syrup
Vanilla extract
Heavy Cream (I used whole milk since that's all we had...still worked fine)

Gather a big bowl of snow (make sure it's clean :).  Fill cereal sized bowls with snow.  Drop 1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract into each bowl.  Drizzle 1-3 Tbsp. of real maple syrup in each bowl, depending on how sweet you want your ice cream to be.  Pour 4-6 Tbsp. of cream over the top of everything in your bowl.  Stir all the ingredients together until you have ice cream!  Eat it right away before it melts!

  1. I remember trying to make this in Memphis as a kid...there was so little snow that we were scraping it off the porch seats and we got splinters in our bowl of ice cream. So sad.
