Meal Plans Week of 4-18-10

Gearing myself up for a busy week.  We've got lots of appointments, meetings, errands, projects and guests.  I'll have to be on top of things in terms of planning so that I'm sure to fit everything in.  Today is church and Justin has an orchestra concert.  Rebecca and I will probably be going to the concert. It depends how she's doing/what time she gets up from her nap.  Her sleep has been a bit off again (up in the night, up early, short naps), so she's lacking right now.  And we don't want to have to wake her up if she's finally getting some good rest.  So we'll see.  Monday is grocery shopping, Rebecca's 2 year check up, and I have a nursery cmt meeting.  Tuesday I have a Dr. appt., and I'd like to stop by one or two new stores to see what they have in terms of produce and health foods.  Wednesday is Kindermusk, and I have a dentist appt.  Then Thursday will be all about prepping, baking and cleaning.  Friday Justin's parents will be here and staying over night.  I'll be ready to take it easy by Saturday night :)

I don't think I'll have time for much in terms of extras aside from making stuff for when we have guests.  But probably no time to grind flour, soak grains, make new breakfast foods, etc.  That'll have to wait until next week.  I'm almost out of most of my regular homemade goodies (crackers, granola bars, bagels, etc.) so next week could be a big baking week.

In terms of cost savings.  I'm still working on tracking spending and sales and planning meals based on sales and what we have.  And last week my grocery bill was quite a bit lower than usual.  I also managed to get Rebecca to try on a bunch of clothes from last year (she actually thought it was fun:) and discovered almost all of it still fits!  So the only summer shopping I did was at 2 2nd hand sales.  And I think she's pretty much set.  I probably spent about $15 on summer clothes for her this year.  Not bad.  I still need to work on calculating homemade costs.  Hopefully by the end of the month I'll have some figures to report.

Lately we've been averaging about 1 cereal breakfast a week.  Never thought that would be possible for me!  But I like it.  And this week I'm going to be brave and try having eggs one morning.  I love eggs...but not for breakfast.  I'm just not in the mood for them first thing in the morning.  But I know they are healthy.  So I'm going to give it a try.

That's about it for this week.  Here's what's on the menu.

  1. Looks like a busy week! Good luck at the new stores! I hope you can find some good deals on the things you're looking for. I'm going to make a trip to Better Health on my lunch hour one day this week. I'll see if they have ww flour and organic cane sugar (and wasn't there something else you were looking for?? I can't remember now...) in their bulk section and see what their prices are, if you want to compare. I've only ever bought dry beans, quinoa, and millet in their bulk section at Better Health. Foods for Living in Lansing has a better bulk section than Better Health - but their prices are sometimes higher, too.
