Last week I was busy in the kitchen as usual. Although it was tough to not be able to use the oven all week. Just too hot. I made cultured smoothies, raw granola, crispy peanuts, homemade peanut butter, fermented mango chutney, fermented ketcup, fermented bean paste, strawberry rhubarb bread, pink salad (for Justin to take to work) and a new batch of hot fudge. Lots of yummy food. I love the smoothies. I had one for lunch both Friday and Saturday :) I won't do it every day, but it is a very healthy, filling lunch. All 3 fermented foods turned out pretty well (updates in the individual posts). I'm excited to try more.
This week my main experiment is sprouting wheat berries. My SIL picked up 20 lbs. of wheat berries for me at a market in Lansing! Thanks, Sara. Now I'm ready to sprout and grind some more flour. I have 3 jars soaking right now. I'm anxious to see if this works. I didn't end up making bagels last week because of the heat. I'm hoping to make some this week with my sprouted flour. I also didn't dry any fruit last week because I realized I didn't have much fruit in the house to dry :P I'll have to stock up this week. I think we are going to have pancakes for breakfast one day this week. But I haven't decided yet if I'm going to use some soaked pumpkin pancakes from the freezer or if I want to try making sourdough pancakes (need to try some other recipes with my starter). We are getting low on sandwich bread, so if time allows I'll make a batch. We are also just about out of homemade graham crackers. Rebecca has been loving them lately. So we'll have to make more. She hasn't helped with any baking projects lately, so she'll enjoy that. I need to figure out what I'm making for dessert for my nursery cmt dinner next week. I may or may not be making it this week (depends if it's a prep ahead thing). Finally I want to try making some healthy drinks. Today I will try making punch. And later in the week I'll try a yogurt drink. One more way to help heal my gut. Unfortunately no luck finding kefir grains at Harvest Health last week. So I'll have to order some before I can try that. You'll notice a lot of ?s in my daily plans. Mostly it's because I have no idea how long some things will take...sprouting, drying, etc. And because some things will depend on the weather.
I'll leave it at that for today since I'll be doing my full monthly recap tomorrow and June goals on Tuesday. Here's what's on the menu:
