End Of Month Recap - July 2011

July was hot and busy and fun :)  Here's how I did on goals.

FOOD

1. Eat full GAPS-legal food. I want to start including broth at most meals - I still eat broth daily...but haven't yet started eating it with all meals.  Maybe next month.

2. Make bedtime snacks less sweet - this has been going pretty well.  Sometimes I still eat a little fresh fruit for snacks (who can pass up fresh blueberries when they are in season?!).  But overall not many sweets at night.

3. Eat plenty of healthy fat daily (coconut oil, butter, lard, EVOO) - I have been getting a lot of EVOO in my diet from dips.  And I have started adding coconut oil into my nut milk smoothies again.  I started slowly so I think my tummy is doing ok with it.

4. Avoid foods that I'm sensitive to or that Abram is sensitive to - coconut flour, ice cream, tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots, gassy food - brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli. Not sure yet about all dairy/yogurt/kefir, coconut oil and coconut milk - We're still figuring this out.  But I think pretty much any dairy bothers both of us :(  Made a mistake with peppers and onions one night too...we both paid for that.

5. Continue Sunday night fun/finger food night, and do breakfast one night a week - check.

6. Add kefir back into my diet regularly if I think it doesn't bother Abram. Start slowly since I haven't been eating it much lately - I tried it...and it didn't go well.  I think I'll have to wait a while for this.

7. Fermented veggies - Continue eating sauerkraut regularly. Try fermenting other veggies - I made fermented carrots/beets/cabbage.

8. Food preservation - I've frozen sweet and tart cherries, blueberries and beans.

9. Eat in season - enjoy things fresh while we can (even if they show up on the menu almost every night of the week :P) - check.  We're enjoying lots of fresh beans from the garden.  Plus I've been baking with all the fresh fruit.

HEALTH

1. Sleep - nap when possible (which sadly isn't often) - can't remember the last time I got a nap.  Oh well.  At least Abram is sleeping pretty well at night.

2 Adjust to baby/new routines - look for some routine, but also stay flexible with Abram. Make his needs the focus. Continue on demand feeding - check.

3. Exercise daily - whatever fits in my day. Focus on leading an active life instead of just specific exercises - I have been doing more jogging lately.  It helps my tummy more, makes me feel more toned and takes less time to do a decent workout.

4. Healthy lifestyle series - no time for these this month.  But hopefully soon.

5. Psychologist appt. - my psychologist appt. last week was my last one for now. My Dr. said come back in 6 months, 1 year, 3 years...whatever I think I need. So now I need to keep myself on track and use the tools I've learned in the last 5 years - still doing well.

6. Continue to push myself out of my comfort zone/defeat OCD - check.

7. Continue taking full dose of miralax - check.

FAMILY/PERSONAL

1. Activities and Outings - MOPS playdate, Edward Jones Picnic, Whitecaps game w/ Justin's work, Anniversary, Baptism/party, Dentist - Rebecca's first check up! (I have one the same day), Abram's 2 month check up, Bridal shower for my cousin's fiance, 4h of July - parade/fireworks, John Ball Zoo, local parks, Cone World, library, Children's Museum.

2. Rebecca - check.

a. Keep working on potty training.
b. Keep working on letters, numbers, spelling/sounds, counting, math, writing, etc.
c. Adjustment to baby.
d. Make sure she gets plenty of attention/some one-on-one time/let her know how important/special she is.
e. Daily activity chart - this is going well.  Rebecca loves to mark off what she does.  We just need to be better about marking things immediately after we do them.  If we do it later it doesn't have the same impact.

3. Abram

a. Start cloth diapering - check!  This is going great.  I hope to do a post on it soon.
b. Plan baptism/party - everything went very well.
c. Keep trying to figure out reflux/sleeping/eating issues - we're getting there.  No real issues with reflux these days.  And he's sleeping well at night.  We just need to figure out what causes gassy tummy/pain/motility issues at times.
d. Work on development/milestones - check.
e. Baby wearing - check.
f. Move him to the nursery - check.  Overall he's sleeping very well!
