Ranch Dressing and Mix

This morning I also made a ranch dressing mix.  I saw the recipe on Heavenly Homemakers a long time ago.  But never got around to trying it.  And I think my SIL tried it and liked it.  I personally don't care for ranch dressing.  But Justin likes it.  And we've finally gotten rid of our last bottles of boughten dressing (hadn't touched them in a long time...were way past date and just tossed them).  I always make thousand island or honey mustard for myself.  And I figured it was time to make some good dressing for Justin.  Turns out we won't actually be eating salad any more this week since I didn't get any more lettuce.  And I already used up my homemade mayo.  So for today I just made the dressing mix.  I'll have to update sometime when I actually make the dressing.  This is so easy.  Four ingredients.  Only takes a minute to make.  I'm excited to use it to make dressing and to use on other things.
Ranch Dressing and Mix

5 Tbsp. dried minced onions
7 tsp. parsley flakes
4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. garlic powder

Mix together and store in an air tight container.

For dressing: Mix 2 Tablespoons dry mix with 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup buttermilk or sour cream. (I use buttermilk.)

**Edited 8/5/10 - I made some ranch dressing last night.  I used plain yogurt instead of buttermilk/sour cream since that's all I had on hand.  Very good!  I don't normally like ranch, and I even thought it was pretty good.  Justin and Rebecca really liked it.

For dip: Mix 2 Tablespoons dry mix with 2 cups sour cream or kreme fresh.
Mix up a few hours before serving, so the flavors all blend nicely.

  1. This is great stuff! I have cut back on the salt in my mixes (about 3 teaspoons) b/c Kevin thought it was way too salty - it was definitely a prominent taste. But now it seriously tastes very similar to Hidden Valley ranch. We love it!
