French Salad Dressing

I love salad.  And my favorite dressings are thousand island, honey mustard and french.  I've never been a fan of italian or ranch.  The problem...you can't buy healthy salad dressing!  Even at the health food store.  Even organic brands.  They still use junky vegetable oils.  The solution...homemade!  I've made thousand island before.  So easy and so good!  Then at a family party a couple weeks ago my SIL brought homemade french.  And it was really good!  It's a Heavenly Homemaker recipe (love those!).  And again, so easy!  I made a batch this morning.  Only takes a couple minutes.  Measure, pour, shake.  The only modification I made was to add a little celery salt instead of celery seed.  I don't have celery seed.  And I didn't want any chunks in it.  Wow, is it good!  I can't wait to have salad tonight with french dressing.  I had a hard time getting a picture of the dressing in the jar.  But it really does look just like the dressing you'd buy at the store.  Maybe I'll remember to take a picture of it on salad tonight.
French Salad Dressing

3/4 cups ketchup
2 Tbsp. sucanat (you can substitute brown sugar if you want)
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. liquid smoke
1 Tbsp. ground celery seed (I used about 1/2 tsp. celery salt)

Put all ingredients directly into a pint sized jar. Put the lid on and shake it well. Refrigerate.  It's good to make it at least a few hours before you need it.

  1. Looks great! Maybe I will pick up some celery salt and try that next. I'm not crazy about the texture the ground celery seed has, either.

  2. No. I haven't made ketchup since b/f I got pg!! I could not handle anything LF when I had m/s. And haven't gotten around to making it since. It's just the Meijer Naturals. I know it's not LF, but we really like the taste.
